Summit Ascent of Tetnuldi
Highlights
Summit Tetnuldi (4,858 m) and challenge yourself on an exciting ridge route that will impress even experienced climbers with its technical challenges and breathtaking views.
Tetnuldi is one of the most iconic peaks in Upper Svaneti. Its pyramid-like shape resembles a child’s drawing: a perfect triangle crowned with a snow-white glacial summit. It’s no surprise this region is part of the UNESCO World Heritage list.

Day 1

Arrival and Transfer to Mestia
Upon arrival in Tbilisi or Kutaisi, we head to the mountain village of Mestia.
The transfer takes approximately 8 hours from Tbilisi or 4.5 hours from Kutaisi. Along the way, we travel through stunning gorges and reservoirs that lead us into Upper Svaneti — a land where the Svan people have lived for over 2,000 years. These mountain dwellers added their mark to the landscape with ancient defensive towers, which protected them from enemies a thousand years ago.
After settling into a comfortable guesthouse, we’ll enjoy a welcome dinner, where you’ll savor the incredible cuisine of Svaneti.
Day 2

Acclimatization Hike to Koruldi Lakes
We begin with a transfer to the Koruldi Lakes, located at 2,740 m. Surrounded by glaciers and peaks, these alpine lakes offer a stunning backdrop for our first acclimatization hike to 3,250 m. From here, you’ll enjoy panoramic views of Tetnuldi, Ushba, Laila, and the magnificent landscapes of Upper Svaneti.
Day 3

Hike to the Summit Camp
Today we swap the comforts of the guesthouse for the thrill of camping under the mountains. First, we ascend by cable car to 2,780 m before starting our hike to the summit camp at the base of the Tetnuldi glacier (3,700 m). The camp, surrounded by sheer mountain walls, will be our home for the next few days.
Day 4

Acclimatization Hike
We will head up the glacier to an altitude of 4,100 m, where we’ll get our first close-up view of the ridge route to the summit. This acclimatization hike prepares us for the climb ahead. The focus today is on adjusting to altitude and resting in preparation for summit day.
Day 5

Summit Day: Ascent of Tetnuldi
This is the day we’ve been preparing for! Before dawn, we begin our ascent to the summit of Tetnuldi (4,858 m) via the 2B ridge route. The climb includes glacier crossings, a rocky ridge, and a narrow snow-ice ridge.
The ascent takes approximately 8 hours, and the reward at the top is an unforgettable panorama of the Greater Caucasus Range: Ushba, Elbrus, Shkhara, and many other iconic peaks.
Day 6

Reserve Day
Mountain weather can be unpredictable, so we reserve this day as a backup in case of poor conditions. According to local legend, Tetnuldi and Ushba were two lovers who could never be together, turned into mountains by the gods. Tetnuldi, gentle and sunny, contrasts with Ushba, fierce and stormy. Even the calmest peak can have its moods, so this day ensures we have the best chance for success.
Day 7

Descent to Mestia
We descend from the summit camp back to the comfort of our guesthouse in Mestia. This day can be spent resting or exploring local sights, such as the Ethnographic Museum or the Mikheil Khergiani Museum, dedicated to the legendary climber known as the “Tiger of the Rocks.”
In the evening, we celebrate our successful ascent of Tetnuldi with a festive dinner.
Day 8

Transfer to the City
We return to Tbilisi or Kutaisi and check into our hotel. Spend the final day strolling through the city, shopping for local treats like churchkhela, tkemali, and tkhlapi, or simply enjoying the rich flavors of Georgian cuisine.
Day 9

Departure
In the morning, we transfer to the airport for your departure. You’ll return home with memories of Tetnuldi’s spectacular summit and the magical mountains of Svaneti.
